    Yes, there are exceptions for certain types of vehicles, such as motorcycles, armed forces vehicles, fire and rescue vehicles, and vehicles with a disability licence. There are also special rules for large trucks and buses.

    Which motorways are toll roads in Bulgaria?

    In Bulgaria, all motorways and most main roads are toll roads. Compared to other countries, even major roads (other than motorways) are considered toll roads. Foreigners cannot enter Bulgaria without a vignette.

    How to prove payment of a vignette

    After purchasing the e-Vignette, the vehicle is automatically registered in the electronic system. Checks are carried out electronically on motorways and therefore no physical proof is required. However, it is advisable to carry a proof of purchase in case of a manual check.

    What happens if I drive on a toll motorway without a valid vignette?

    Driving on toll motorways without a valid vignette can lead to fines. The amount of the fine may vary and can be collected on the spot or sent by post to the vehicle owner’s address. It is strongly recommended to always have a valid vignette before entering a toll motorway.

    I made a mistake on the license plate number. Is it possible to change it?

    If a mistake is made in entering the registration number when purchasing a vignette, no changes can be made to the details, including the registration number, once the vignette has started to be valid. So if a mistake is made, you need to buy a new vignette with the correct details. It is important to note that the original vignette, even if not used, will not be returned and no refund will be given.
